Job Purpose / Objective

The project engineer & planner is responsible for supporting the project management team in their execution of projects and for promoting standardization within the PMO.

Key Accountabilities 1

  • Demonstrate visible support of the company safety Vision.
  • Follow the company’s HSE and quality standards and ensure that all major and minor activities are done in accordance with the OEM’s recommendations. 
  • The Project engineer should have the required knowledge, talent, and attitude to handle his duties efficiently and effectively with a focus on continuous systems and knowledge improvements.
  • Consult with project managers and technical experts to set up assignments, tasks, and subtasks within the scope of the project and associated interfaces.
  • Update and maintain schedule data to ensure project consistency, optimization and standardization between projects.
  • Identifies potential project schedule delays and facilitates in their intervention in a timely manner.

Key Accountabilities 2

Aligned with project manager instructions, he shall do and immediately/frequently report to Project manager the following:

  • Participates in Front End Loading phase of the project including the preparation of project plans, definition of scope of work (SOW), schedules, budgets, and documentation requirements for the projects.
  • Supports in the review process for technical & financial GAP analysis of technical proposals versus tender or client requirements.
  • Support the use/integration of project and contract management systems into the daily operation of the business.
  • Supports the Project Risk Management Process through the facilitation of risk reviews and associated risk analyses.  
  • Coordinating project timelines with internal departments and external stakeholders.
  • Monitors project plans, timelines, deadlines and performing routine inspection of production schedules.
  • Monitors the procurement and budget records of the project overall scope of works.
  • Follows up on material and service orders, vendors/stakeholder activities, and performing site visits as needed to track the project plans and budget.
  • Review contractors’ schedules and progress measurement methodologies, monitors contractors’ schedule and progress performance, immediate direct feedback to project manager.
  • Evaluates performance and supports the preparation of project progress reports and forecasts. 
  • Keeping stakeholders informed of project timelines and deadlines.
  • Participate in budget reviews and proposals for current and future projects delivery.
  • Review schedule basis of contractor's change proposals and report it to Project manager.
  • Communicates any potential schedule delays envisaged and its substantiation with critical path analysis for project manager review.
  • Accommodates updates and changes to project schedules, whilst continuously developing and reviewing corrective schedule opportunities and recovery plans. 
  • Recommends actions to keep projects within budget and completed on time.
  • Recognizes and understand competing business requirements and assists the project managers with forming recommendations for the overall good of the combined projects teams.
  • Identify and communicate 'lessons learned' to the stakeholders to enable improvements.
  • Monitors and appraises the performance of contractors in the areas of progress and schedule control. 
  • Works with the assigned buyer to monitor the progress of project material and service procurement to ensure delivery is maintained within the agreed delivery dates.

Key Accountabilities 3

Relevant Experience/ Skills – Minimum

  • Minimum 6 years of experience in-field services in the same discipline. 
  • Knowledge of drilling systems and equipment, major shipyards projects related to the Oil & Gas industry and specifically the drilling sector and preferable within the local context and region.
  • Experienced in working within the project management discipline and with time spent within project planning and its associated processes and tools. 
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Project.
  • High level of competence in oral and written communication with excellent computer skills. 
  • Must be self-motivated and possess superior skills to coordinate projects activities and resources.
  • Ability to identify and solve unusual problems associated with the assigned projects.
  • Excellent leadership skills and practices. 
  • Acts independently to reach sound technical decisions concerning project planning activities.
